Náchod

The Náchod Art Gallery was founded in 1966 and continued the work of the city art gallery opened to the public in 1934. Its exhibition spaces are among the best in the country.

The gallery is located in a former riding school established at Náchod Castle around 1700. The building from 1945 served as a warehouse for building material and was later used as a gym for handball. From 1978 – 1983 it was rebuilt into a gallery according to a design by the architect Josef Wagner. In the late 1990s the gallery gained high level of performance thanks to the installation of new lighting.

The most important part of the collection consists of Russian 19th century paintings, which are exhibited every two years. The gallery prepares extensive thematic and solo exhibitions that are often accompanied by professional publications and monographs. Every year at the end of the season the gallery hosts the Náchod Art Autumn showcasing regional artistic creation.

The Náchod Art Gallery is a member of the Gallery Council of the Czech Republic.
